The Virgin Suicides and Feminism

It’s kind of sad to think what a small portion of people ever think of these things when talking about feminism, the front and back of it, everything besides sexual assault and women not being able get any job she wants for the same wage as a man would get. There’s this really gross patriarchal thing that i can’t stop thinking about this whole morning. There is a lot of such beautiful women out there, and the reason aside from the oppression of capitalism it’s the fault of man, the male gaze. A lot of men see women as objects without realizing it.

The ideal woman is a gorgeous medium height blond who wears almost unrevealing dresses, cause otherwise she’s a slut, a woman who’s innocent, but also very sexually experienced, a dream, a woman who has this mystical smile that tells you “you don’t really know me”, a submissive one, but a one that’s always independent looking, a strong one, but a one that would never go too far from you, because that’s all a lie, she can’t live without you! Because you’re the important one, it’s you who should speak out, not the socially and psychologically oppressed girl. Bonus eternal beauty points if she always looks young, no matter what. The teenage one’s are the sexiest, but make sure to never take them seriously: they’re stupid and their opinion shouldn’t matter!

All it is is just lust. Men rarely look into the way a girl is thinking, her thought process, her fears, only her dreams matter, she is a dream herself, isn’t she? A misty tale that lingers in your head that you wont ever fully figure out.

It’s disgusting, i hate it, the fact that so many men don’t look at girls, especially teenage one’s, like humans. They should be there to look nice and be there when you need them, like a drug. I think that’s why the press in the 90s hated the Riot Grrrl movement so much. It was mostly white men, who thought this way and couldn’t get it through their thick skulls that women aren’t perfect and that they have opinions and thoughts, that they are able to speak out. That kind of ignorance tends to lead a lot of young girls to mental illness, feeling crazy, feeling totally mad, never speaking out their opinion, and sometimes even suicide.

I think the movie “The Virgin Suicides” captures that phenomenon just perfectly. The boys ignore the loneliness and madness of 5 beautiful teenage girls, see them as gloomy dreams that always linger in their heads and nothing more. They think they’re totally in love with them, without actually taking them in as humans, and then they wonder why are they always so sad and eventually kill them selves.

Wow! I love your perspective. Views on femininity and such have drastically gone through several stages, bad or good- you don't always know.

Overall, your thinking process was interesting! I hope to see more from you in the future.

thanks for reading my thoughts, means a lot for me! But I don't really think interesting is the right word, my main point is to be as honest as possible, these are just the things in my head. I guess I can see how others can see them as interesting or strange tho

Of course! You're being transparent, and to be honest most people don't even dare to say anything about the truth. I'm glad that there's someone out here who realizes all these faults and addresses them!!! So many stereotypes and expectations are being put in place, and it isn't right. It's restrictive.
I guess my wording was a bit off, I apologize if it seemed blunt. I thought your writing was immersive in a way that peaks my interest.( I agree with your points from the entry!!) It isn't strange at all, but rather full of wisdom.
Perspectives are important of course. They're always full of little details and things you never would've thought of. Thank you though!!!!! For writing and replying
