So, I finally got around to watching last year's Snyder Cut of the 2017 Justice League. It was pretty good. Really long, obviously, but good, and I enjoyed the full runtime. The original (Joss Whedon's "Josstice League") just wasn't doing it for me. It's crazy how Cyborg has a whole storyline and character arc that was cut out of the original 2017 release. I still love Ben Affleck as Batman. Why can't ALL the live-action Batmans wear their armor UNDER their bat costume? I hate a Batsuit that's just a suit of armor. Batfleck's suit in Batman V Superman was the ideal to strive towards. Comic book accurate, without being too cheesy or unintimidating.
Wonder Woman as played by Gal Gadot is good, as ever. On a side note, I also just got around to watching Wonder Woman 1984 and my gosh is it not good. I was not feeling the tone of that one. Best part of the whole movie was seeing Linda Carter in the mid-credit scene. I liked the part in the Snyder Cut where she like ran while crouching and deflected a bunch of bullets to save children. The whole scene was set up in a way where it really sold you on the idea that if Wonder Woman hadn't been there, there would have been massacre.
I dug Snyder's darker take on Aqua Man played by Jason Mamoa, which was a slight departure from what we saw in the actual Aqua Man movie. Regarding Amber Heard, who is still complete trash, I couldn't believe my eyes when she appeared in the Snyder cut with NATURAL looking RED HAIR?! Her hair looked absolutely terrible in Aqua Man, so it was a pleasant surprise. I understand she probably appeared this was in Josstice League, but to be completely honest, that cut of the film was so much less memorable that I can't really recall if she did. Anyway, Arthur's white fish-man eyes were pretty cool looking.
To be honest, I'm still not fully sold on Ezra Miller as Barry Allen's Flash, but this definitely made me more hopeful than previous films he's appeared in. I like when he runs real fast, and he does, so I can't complain too much. I remember the scene in the Studio/Joss Whedon Cut where Flash races Superman towards the end. Honestly that's the scene that stuck out the most to me out of the entire original release of the film. Speaking of Superman, I sure didn't miss the cell phone footage opening to the original release of the film which starred Henry Cavill with a CGI upper lip due to the actor being contractually obligated to not shave his mustache for the filming of Mission Impossible.
The Flashback scene that showed Zeus, the Atlantean King, the Amazonians, King Arthur, and an alien Green Lantern was WAY longer in the Snyder Cut than it was in the original release, and thank goodness for that, because that was, in my opinion, the coolest scene in the Studio Cut. My one complaint, is that each of the factions had elaborate hiding places for their Mother Boxes, but King Arthur and his men just buried theirs like 2 feet deep in the middle of the woods? That was terrible, why didn't they have Merlin cast a spell on it at least, or something?? Nitpicking.
Uh Steppenwolf looked cooler in this version. We actually got to see Darkseid in this one and his Omega Beam briefly. Pretty cool to see a comic book accurate Darkseid in live-action. It's weird to compare it to Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice where Doomsday just looked awful, and not particularly like Doomsday. For a decent comic accurate live action Doomsday, look at Syfy's Krypton. That gave us a few great takes on classic Superman villains. From memory, we got Doomsday, Brainiac, Lobo, and a unique reimagining of Zod. That's Besides the point. I liked Zack Snyder's Justice League.
