to see myself in the mirror
is to no longer see myself
i see the hopes that my mother had
for her children
in the mirror
i see the dreams
of her second generation
born here
the hopes that one will succeed
if they work
hard
painfully
in unbearable ways
and they do
and they dont
and i see her
in my eyes
which i could no longer bare
as i am as foggy as a mirror
as i am less than what they are
we no longer share the same experiences
as we once did
and i am the fog in the glass
and she is the one looking into the mirror
