Some friendships in my life burn brightly with an intensity that almost eats me alive, occupying my thoughts with a frightening perpetuity and making me desire intimacy more than anything. Others simmer, and seem unlikely to ever burn out. I spend a day of my break in Atlanta with my friend of the latter kind. I won't see her again for a couple of months, and this is fine. We stay in touch suitably, busy with our own lives, but still connected. I shouldn't take this kind of thing for granted, but I find I often do. That's my mistake.
