Simulation Theory

The simulation theory is a concept i can never get my head around because if you look at the bigger picture, this theory is just a modernised version of religion. Religion has a source of ultimate power where society works under the prospect of an ideal afterlife. Likewise, a simulation consists of a higher power, or source of control where society is able to be fully maintained to promote a mutual way of living because let's be real, our lives are not all that different, and the idea of our lives being a sort of "matrix" ties in with the idea that life is not real and there is something else we are yet to discover (whether that be the real world, or paradise, or the afterlife etc.) . It's a question as to why, ever since the start of civilisation humans have collectively thought and believed that life is artificial, with paradise or hell being the ultimate goal, that will determine life, or whatever it is we expect to experience in the life, would it be life? Or an eternal sensation of either pain or satisfaction. That is, in summary what our lives ultimately result in, in terms of the general base of religion. A simulation would make sense if you take into account the evidence humans have been exposed to since the birth of time. Why were cavemen motivated to draw on walls? How were the Egyptians able to perfectly map out the pyramids to line up against the Orion belt? Especially with the pyramids being situated at the Earth's specific centre of mass, it all just doesn't add up. I could talk about simulations and society for days but none of it would make sense.
