I need more sunlight but omg is my town weird with their racism
For context: I am Ilocano but nobody believes I'm even an islander or Polynesian for some reason?? I've had a teacher legit pull me aside and tell b\me that because I'm Mexican I will never have a future and go to college... like;;; My eyes and nose are very Asian looking so how tf-
Also my old boss assumed me and my family were native American because of our skin and also apparently because my aunt has a feather tattoo?? like wtf how does that correlate???
It's enough already that I'm a queer woman (she/they) of color but tack onto that the fact that I'm building up a battle jacket and like to wear a lot of black with little pops of color on top and it's like I'm from another planet.
And if anyone was wondering if I'm from some small town in Kansas or something- I'm from southern California. This is a quote from google regarding the race population of California: "39% of state residents are Latino, 35% are white, 15% are Asian American or Pacific Islander, 5% are Black, 4% are multiracial, and fewer than 1% are Native American or Alaska Natives, according to the 2020 Census."

I'd like to briefly add that when I was pulled aside by the teacher I was with other kids of color, two Mexican and one mixed-race (black and white), and he was referring to all of us as Mexican... And afterward, we all had a conversation about it and it was a really weird/hard day for us all.
On a lighter note, I made good friends with the mixed-race girl and for family heritage day (middle school's theme week) she dressed in all black and white clothes telling everyone her race was "oreo" lol
