Does anyone else feel like people take Gorillaz too seriously? Like the people who act like you shouldn't like a certain character if they're a bad person, but isn't that the whole point of the band? I mean the whole reason the band was made is because Jamie and Damon sat down and saw MTV and said to each other "We can do that but better." So really if you think about it, the members of Gorillaz represent the music industry and these idiot celebrities we all idolize. Murdoc, in the beginning phases he was your typical selfless and money greedy asshole. He wanted and got everything, girls, fame, money...you name it. Yes he had some character development but that's a discussion for another time because there's a lot I wanna say about the depth of his character. Murdoc literally kidnapped people to have a famous band...do you think you can just "cancel him" for that? Another thing with the "cancelling", I noticed people are trying to cancel 2-D for laughing at Murdoc talking about him getting sexual abused as a child. First off no he didn't, he made a joke about Murdoc being assaulted while he was in prison and that's it. Also we know 2-D isn't innocent, he character appears naive and airheaded, while that's true, he's not your "innocent smol bean" and he definitely has that secret side to him. In conclusion, Gorillaz is more than just a project or experience, its a modern statement of this messed up view that pop culture has left on our society.
