Maybe try a different direction!! As I stated in my reply to someone else I looove lyrics, so it starts with figuring out what your favorite parts of listening to music are. Do you listen mostly for the lyrics? Do you listen for the instrumental? Is it the overall theme? I can recommend stuff for you if you want!
I think I start out focusing on the instrumentals. If they vibe for me, the lyrics then take focus. A great example of this for me would be "Be Yourself" by Audioslave which captured me with its initial guitar sequence only to then take me away with its lyrics which hit me pretty hard.

I'm seriously not exaggerating when I say he's a legend. Not just music-wise but everything Neil has done for the internet in general.
