So recently my friend Alexis found an opossum jaw bone and she gave it to me! so i decided to clean it up and whiten it because if you didn't know, i enjoy collecting animal bones i feel as i m admiring the animals life by preserving its remains, ya know? Anyways i thought id tell you guys about the process i do to clean and sterilize the bones.
So first, I fill a tub with lukewarm water and dawn dish soap and i let the jaw set in there for about 6 hours to let all the dirt and oils loosen up and after that i take an old tooth brush and scrub it (being careful not to brush too had because the bones are very fragile)
Then, I rise it off under running water and in a tub put a mixture of 70% hydrogen peroxide and 30% water and let that sit for about 2 hours, scrub, rinse and dry then if the bone is not to my liking i will repeat until done!
