I watched "Shutter Island" yesterday and I am still in awe. With every twist and turn I thought at first the movie was predictable but as I continued I saw just how wrong I was. It was horrific, yet so good. I have been been inpatient twice for a variety of reasons along the lines of MDD and SI. Both times I was located at a adolescent ward. When I saw this movie I really had to try to think of it like it was placed in the 50s because that's when this movie was set. Although, I knew it wasn't a modern representation of the mental heath system... the program was supposed to work with modern phycology like Cognitive behavioral therapy and Dialectical behavioral therapy. Both I am well aware of so much so that I have been treated with it. Yet the violent, stereotypes, and stigmas where there. AND yes there were people there that were violent, held firearms to kill may that be themselves or others, and things worse. But we are more than that. Aren't we?
