Eleanor and Park - Rainbow Rowell

Y’all do not understand how much I love this book like- it’s SOOOOOOOOO good and I can never seem to find anyone else who’s read it.

If you don’t know or recognize the book, lemme give you a little rub down.

The book is set in the late 80’s early 90’s. Our main characters meet on a school bus.

Park has gone to this school for years. He’s grown up in this town and he’s used to the bullshit, Eleanor however, is new. She just moved here with her mom, stepdad (WHO’S A FUCKING SCUMBAG), and her siblings. They start off as enemies, turn into friends, and eventually become lovers. And do you wanna know the best part about it? THEY FALL IN LOVE OVER COMIC BOOKS AND MUSIC.

Park is a short, “geeky”, Asian. He’s described as semi-attractive and nerdy, and deals with racism and family expectations. Think of Mommy issues times 2.

Eleanor is a red-headed, chubby, “weird” white girl, who’s bullied by the popular kids. She comes from a poor family and has to deal with a scumbag stepdad (Who’s a CREEP), Six crazy younger siblings, an absent father, and the bullshit of being a fat girl in high school. Think of daddy issues times 10 000.

Overall the book is a pretty good read, but it rips your fucking  s o u l  out. Like- I loved it, but cried so hard throughout the whole thing. Rainbow Rowell outdid herself on this one!!

It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read and I recommend it to anyone who likes unconventional love stories.
