In my opinion, work is only important to you if it is fullfilling to your life. While some may argue that work is only fullfiling if it pays well, the truth is that work isn't just about making money. Work is about what you do in your life and why you do it. Without a clear reason for why you do the work, it isn't as fullfilling and you begin to wonder why you do it in the first place.
I have personally not worked at a job yet but what I do in my free time is what I consider to be my work. I run a YouTube channel in my spare time outside of school and life. I started posting in 2019 because I needed to do more with my life and did not find the dull day to day life to be as interesting as it could be. I constantly make new videos in order to appeal to a broader audience. Sometimes my videos do well and keep me relevant for a week but sometimes they do not and I wonder if I should go back to living a mundane life. That's when I remember why I make content in the first place. It is not just about pleasing others. If they like what I do, then it's great. If they do not, then it does not matter. I make content to be content rather than making others happy.
I feel that work that pays well doesn't make you happy unless it is something that you actually enjoy and are passionate about. You might say that with more money, you can do more things in your life but if you only care about money, then does that mean that life becomes meaningless if you lack money one day? Would having less money keep you being joyful or would it make you dissapointed and leave you unsure about your purpose in your life and society as a whole? I brought up the example of my YouTube channel to show that even without all the fame and success that many try to achieve, having the satisfaction of knowing that you at least made someone smile that day is a reward itself.
Knowing that what you do gives you a positive outlook on life is something that is unparalled on so many levels. It's like the old saying about how money cannot buy happiness. You can have all the money in the world and still feel like there is something missing. The void that is left by not doing something interesting and exciting will never be replaced by money. There are many people who work for the money and feel miserable because they give up the chance to be happy in order to waste their time being unable to express themselves. If you find joy within expressing yourself regardless of income, it leads to a better way of thinking about your life and purpose in general. Be happy with your life regardless of how well you are payed and many great things will happen
