often people ask me why i hold some amount of hatred for astrology, and it's pretty simple. one is that i'm born under a sign that people tend not to like, and it's really just a projection of bigoted values onto star signs, but the main and predominant reason is that it ruined india.
the whole system of spiritual calvinism, effectively, predicating that the entire world is based upon irrational symbols, i don't understand it at all. it really contributes to societal decline, is partly responsible for what mcgovern called "the hindu rate of growth", and is just disappointing in general. i'm open to new ideas, of course, i myself am a religious hindu, but i would like to hear rebuttals to this idea.

hm, i think i agree to an extent. i have not read much surrounding this topic so i’m not the most knowledgeable. i live very close to india but as it’s a muslim majority country the craze or fascination around astrology is reasonably less here.

yeah i agree! as much as i’d like to say that it’s just a believe system, it does still have a huge impact on people in making decisions and i don’t think that’s okay. there has been an instance in my family (not necessarily related to astrology but some sort of this whole psychic fortune telling type thing) and it was not pleasant, to say the least. and of course that’s anecdotal evidence, and holds little to no value but it does make you think if basing your life or major life decisions around something so fragile and pseudoscientific as astrology is wise or not.
and i’m from bangladesh ^^ born and brought up here. it’s very nice to meet you!!

i totally agree with you it's anecdotal but to some degree it influenced us all so much, especially when our leaders fall for that shit.
also i love bangladesh man my grandparents on my dads side were from that area before 47 then we crossed into west bengal and my family there now. happy late independence day i've always wanted to visit. i was born in raised in america but my parents are from india n i feel a connection, i was just there in december/january. my bengali is terrible though. i got a big affinity for sheikh mujibir rahman and really just the founding story of bangladesh, how you guys rose up from destruction brought by pakistan and how you guys had so many challenges but you grew up to have such a relatively good economy and surpass a lot of expectations that the world set for bangladesh. joy bangla !!

oh you should totally visit as soon as you can! i can’t promise that the country is very aesthetically pleasing, but it’s home. i’ve never visited india but i do plan on doing so in the future. and thank you! smr was a national treasure, it’s devastating how he had to go so soon. can’t say the same abt his one of his offsprings lool. anyways, yes to be honest i’m so impressed by the economic growth we’ve had in the last few years, it’s amazing. but inflation’s still a bitch and if i say something else now i’ll be jailed so i’m gonna keep my mouth shut (or my fingers?? idk), you have a nice nice NICE day, it’s so amazing to meet you, i haven’t really had a convo this long with anybody else. good day!!! i hope to talk to u again:)
