Episode 3: An Interesting Meeting
On the way home, Logan thought about the same scene over and over. Jade shaking in his arms and clinging to him. He blushed and shook the thought from his head. He needed to find Pepper and see if she was okay. If Jade was so off today, then Pepper could be in trouble too. He walked into his apartment, the place still and dark. He felt a chill down his spine. Closing the door he felt tears slide down his cheeks. resting against the door for support, he slid to the floor and covered his face.
Jade woke up in a dark room. Room wasn't the right word for it, dark world maybe? All she could see was black, everywhere save for clouds of white, illuminated fog that would momentarily pass. The darkness wasn't like the lights were off, more like she was in an all-black room that stretched for miles. She got up and looked around for any signs of life.
As she walked a smell crossed her path. One that she did not recognize. It was sweet but not too sweet. There was something else in it, something spicy. She tried to pinpoint the smell, but couldn't. Then it hit her stronger and she realized, it was the smell of dried flowers. She looked around the empty void for the origin of the smell but to no avail.Â
She continued her journey through the void and came across a section where the fog was thicker. As she walked through it got harder and harder to see. Then, as if by magic, the fog cleared in a circle the size of a small room.Â
As she stepped into the circle, Jade saw a girl with long black hair sitting and humming. She was facing away from Jade, and she couldn't see anything through her waist long hair. Jade tried to speak, but when she opened her mouth, no sound came out. She tried again, but still nothing. She grasped her throat and a worried expression fogged over her face.
Resigning the fact that she was not able to speak, Jade decided to walk over to the girl. Once she was close enough to touch her she reached her hand towards the girl, but she hesitated and drew her hand back. She inhaled and exhaled, the exhale moving the girl's hair. If the girl had noticed, she didn't do anything, just continued to hum and stare forward. Jade reached her hand out again and finally touched her shoulder. The girl stopped humming and stood still.
The next thing Jade saw was a flash of color. When she was able to see she saw a pale girl over her, pinning her to the ground. She wore a thigh-length black dress with white lace around the edges. Her long hair created a wall so that Jade could only see the girl's face. The girl had black eyes and an eerie smile played across her soft red lips.Â
Jade tried to move her hands to push the girl off of her but realized that the girl had pinned her hands above her head. Jade let out a shaky breath and stared helplessly into the voids of the girl's eyes. Much darker than the rest of the world she was now in.Â
The girl laughed, a beautiful yet haunting laugh. She leaned closer to Jade's face and smiled.Â
"You're quite cute when you're scared," she said, her voice dripped with honey. Jade could now feel the girl's breath on her face.Â
The girl leaned closer and pecked Jade's lips. Her lips were much softer than Jade had thought. The girl lifted her face from hers and smiled.Â
"You're also not a bad kisser." the girl said with a small laugh.
"What ?" Jade asked in disbelief. Then it registered, she could talk! Her eyes went wide as she heard her voice. "I can talk," she said with a gasp.
The girl giggled something that sent a chill down Jade's spine.
"Of course, you can silly, this is my domain. Well, sort of." the girl said.
Jade stared at her, "who... who are you?" she asked.
The girl let go of Jade's hands and sat up. "I'm Wyn, a demon from a Universe you humans call Universe B16. You are my host."
"Host? Demon? What?" Jade asked.
"Yes, I am a demon, you are the host. And not a bad-looking one at that." Wyn answered.
"Where is Universe B16? How did you get here, why is it me that you live in, why-?"
"Hush," Wyn put her finger to Jade's lips. "You ask too many questions, I'll answer them, but you need to slow down." She continued.
Jade nodded and waited for Wyn to lift her finger. When she did, Jade cleared her throat. "How did you get inside my head?" she asked.
Wyn gave her a worried smile, "Well, that's a long, long story. I'm afraid I can't tell you that one, yet anyway."Â
Jade looked disappointed. "Where are we, my mind?"Â
"Yes, we are. It's a corner you barely use. You wouldn't find it on a chart, because in theory, it doesn't exist. The person who implanted me in you created this little part of your mind. Us demons like to call it 'the Darker'. And yes, it is always as boring as it looks." Wyn explained.
"Who put you in me?" Jade asked.
Wyn's face clouded with a dark expression. "You don't know?" she asked.
Jade shook her head.
"I guess it's a good thing you don't remember, that man is ruthless," Wyn said looking away.
"Where is Universe B16?" Jade asked.
Wyn looked back down at her and gave her a half-smile. "Universe B16 is everywhere and nowhere. It's always near us, but it's covered by a veil that you humans can't see."
"Is it like here?" Jade asked.Â
"No," Wyn laughed. "It's not a good place, not like here."
Wyn stood up, her dress flowing in the fog. Jade sat up and noticed that Wyn was not wearing shoes. Wyn stretched her arm above her head and yawned.Â
"You really should be going back to your world, It's not time yet," Wyn said.
"Time for what?" Jade asked.Â
Wyn turned and walked into the fog that surrounded them. "You'll find out soon" She called behind her.
Jade stood up and ran towards Wyn, but she couldn't see anything in the thick fog. Desperate, Jade closed her eyes. She heard the sound of wind whistling in her ears. When she opened her eyes and gasped for air. When she looked around she was in her dorm room. She looked across the way to Pepper's bed and saw it was empty.Â
