Escaping the Vampiric Qualities of Modern Social Media

I’m very happy to have joined this website. I feel like the emergence of a myspace-like site has arrived just at the right time. I was engulfed by the internet at an early age and found myself illuminated yet horrified by instagram. Illuminated by the drug-like rush of receiving over one hundred likes on a picture. Horrified by the countless insecurities that are broadcasted and ready to be adopted by one who spends any time on social media. 

There was a certain kind of charm that accompanied the early, optimistic days of the internet. When the internet was just seen as a tool, another means of gathering information and communicating. I believe that the term “internet addiction” would have been seen as absurd at that time. 

This site encompasses the ideals of the early days of the internet. It is refreshing to find a site like this and escape the vampiric qualities of the more popular social media platforms such as inauthenticity, advertisements and performative activism.
