[PLEASE NOTE: i am using 'alternative' as an umbrella term, i am talking about most, if not all, subcultures] i don't know if it is just me but i have seen several alternative people that talk about how accepting and toxic-free the alternative communities are... and i just don't agree with what they are saying, at all. at times, there is a lot of toxicity in the community; from competing with each other to body shaming to gatekeeping to classism to plain fucking racism and that's just the tip of the iceberg, really. so, what i am wondering is am i the only person who is seeing this shit? i am also going to say that i don't hate the community, i know that we aren't all like that and that there is just a bunch of really bad apples in the tree but i also want to acknowledge it because it is a problem that i have been seeing, especially since tiktok had seemed to turn into tumblr 2.0... so, what do you guys think?
toxicity in alternative subcultures.

I know this is an old post, and I do not consider myself apart of any alternative subculture because I do not listen to alternative music, but I would still like to say something. I agree 100% with everything you have said, especially on the racism part. While I myself am white, I can fully agree that there is so much racism in the alt. community, and from my research, rock and roll was started mainly by black musicians. Also, many fashion trends in the alt community like facial gems are traced back from Asian cultures. It's just so weird to me how exclusive people can be in ALL alternative communities, like.. it doesn't make sense?! Anyways, thank you for making this post, I feel like it informed me a bit about stuff.
