Now while I don't want to spoil anything about the book for those who want to read it I cannot contain the utter disappointment and shame I felt even picking up this book in the first place. The Slob is Splatterpunk which is of course a sub genre of horror fiction if you aren't aware and it is distinguished by its depiction of gore so if you aren't into that I wouldn't pick it up, actually even if you are into gore I still wouldn't recommend it. The story picks up with an average and a completely uninteresting main character "Vera" this is nothing new as Splatterpunk mc's are usually morally grey so you don't get too attached to them, but Vera is the opposite of that and is shown as a morally good person with an emphasis on cleanliness (an obvious contrast to the antagonist "the slob"). Vera has a family of three including her, her disabled husband and their unborn child, during this time she works as a door to door saleswoman where she is captured by "the slob" from here is when the rape, mutilation, and comical instances of cannibalism start which I won't go into detail with as they are not only insanely graphic the breakdown of Vera's psyche goes into certain aspects of the torture (which is one thing I thought the book did right).
The level of violence is so high it somehow managed to ruin the book's immersion as at a certain point it just felt like each torture scene was created only to outdo the last torture scene and the level of creativity within the violence is just nonexistent so much so you could probably get a bunch of edgy middle schoolers to write a book about anything they want and you'll probably get 70% of scenes in this book. Finally the "gut punching" ending that's supposed to wrap up any good story is just so blatantly sexist it makes you close the book out of pure anger of just reading it. Overall I'd have to say this is on the top 10 list of the WORST books I've ever read in all seriousness
