BBXtag character: ragna the bloodage

with the release of blazblue cross tag battle 2.0 the tactics mode (the games tutorial mode) was updated to include specific character sections i have no idea what to expect but since i still have to go through these i decided i'd make blog entrees of what is taught in each characters specific tutorial this entree can be useful for players who for some reason don't want to go through tactics mode (which i have no idea why you wouldn't you get free in game cash for each mission you complete in tactics mode) and for those who want to practice this stuff in a more realistic situation that would not be presented in tactics mode so let's get into the first character

Ragna the Bloodage

note: i'm using in game name for buttons to make this guide universal if you are unsure of which button is which i recommend going into the control settings to see a quick guide

character explanation

skills

standing B is effective against jumping attacks due to invulnerability to head attribute attacks once the hit connects keep tapping B to transition into a smart combo for added damage.

some of ragnas attacks absorbs the opponents health on hit or block if you see energy flow from the opponent to ragna on attack impact you've successfully absorbed their health

standing A A A A

crouching B

crouching C

jumping B

infernal divider [A+D]

distortion skills

aerial inferno divider [midair A+D]

inferno divider combo [A+D A A] single As can also be B or C A just happens to be the easiest button since you're already there / inferno divider will be followed by an uppercut and a kick that sends the opponent back to the ground

dead spike is performed with a [quarter circle forward + either A or B] B is preferable since that version can be canceled via dash

EX dead spike[quarter circle forward+C]

EX dead spike combo [quarter circle forward +C C C] just like the previous combo A and B can also be used C is just the easiest button

h3lls fang [quarter circle back+A] additional atk can be added with A B or C

nightmare edge [in midair quarter circle back+A] additional atk can be added with A B or C

gauntlet hades is a high attack to use against crouching opponents it can be used in the air and if you add to it using A B or C it will kick up

gauntlet hades [quarter circle back+B]

blood scythe [quarter circle back+C] can be used in midair for aerial blood scythe

carnage scissors [quarter circle forawd+A+B]

devoured by darkness will absorb a large amount of health when it hits it's a useful tool in your kit ragna mains

devoured by darkness [quarter circle back+A+B]

astral heat

because this is the first guide meaning i'm being nice and over descriptive i will tell you how to enter this mode and do what is known as an "astral finish" to enter astral heat when your other character is down press P while in this mode you will do more damage your health bar slowly regenerates and your special bar continually raises to it's new max of 9 (as an opposed to the max 5 possible usually) this op state only lasts for so long though so make the most of it cuz you can only use it once speaking of things you can only do once to do an astral finish you must have astral heat active and have all 4 cross points (these are achieved by using both characters once the other character is gone you cannot gain anymore cross points) as well as have your skill gauge at 9 (you'll see a green glow around it) at this point if you quickly press [down down down+A+B] you'll do what is called an astral finish if the attack hits there will be an animation that plays as you finish off your opponent however this can miss so make sure you're confidant it'll hit cuz if you miss you've lost your shot at finishing the game in such a stylistic fashion (seriously though this way of finishing is almost always just done for style sure it doesn't matter what their health is at if this connects they're done but this takes alot of effort to pull off as you may have noticed and if your opponent knows what they're doing your chances of pulling it off are low in fact you'll probably be punished for trying meaning it's more efficient to try and end it in a more normal fashion if you're playing a serious match) with that giant explanation out of the way lets get into what is learned here in this section

ragnas astral finish is called black onslaught

the rest is just practicing combos built off the moves we just went over

(if anything new comes up while i'm going through the rest here i will update for now this blog is still considered in the editing phase)

(progress update: finally almost finished with this character i'm down to the last combo challenge this one doesn't seem too hard but we'll see how long it takes me)

in the future i will be referring to quarter circle back as 214 and quarter circle forward as 236 (these numbers aren't random they're based off the numpad system of notation)
