a question i've frequently debated with peers is "what makes something art?" in my mind, art is made in two places: the mind of the maker and the eye of the beholder. in order for something to be art, it must find meaning in one of these two places. what i mean by this is if an artist made the most beautiful and skilled painting, it would not be art without some emotion, lesson, or purpose behind it. now, if the artist does not imbue meaning, the painting could still be art if it resonates with someone viewing it, that is, if they give it their own meaning. i like to categorize things made without meaning into the title "crafts"
please do not mistake my calling certain things crafts for disdain, i think that crafts can be just as beautiful, or take just as much skill or time as art, they just lack meaning.
let me know if you agree or disagree! <33
