so basically red guy wants to make a kids show (which is why in episode 6 he tells his boss about his idea of a talking file which we later see in episode six) and his job refuses to sponsor him so to make money he goes to a stand up show and sings the creativity song, where he finds roy and roy agrees to sponsor the show (in every single episodes credits, the last person thanked is roy) so they hire bird and yellow guy (roys son)
roy gives yellow guy the spotlight for obvious reasons but also as punishment for being arrogant (he says hes "sending his son to punish land" in an interview) so thats why everything goes badly in every episode recorded, to punish yellow guy. since roy is a sponsor, he can add and take from the show as he likes and red guy cant do anything about it.
red guy is aware of being on camera since he breaks the fourth wall on several occasions, but he quits the show in episode 4 after seeing that you don't need a big budget or sponsors to make a show (where his mind literally gets blown) , and bird is aware since in episode 5 he says "i dont wanna do this anymore" before hitting the camera
when he hits the camera, if you go frame by frame, you see at the corner of the sets walls, leaning over the edge is roy, watching silently over the recording, then red guy (keep in mind he shouldn't be there) is seen in the microwave, in a window via a drawing and in a microwave, which is showing how hes watching the show in an audience point of view now
at the very end of episode 6, red guy is seen trying to stop the show with the big machine, and roy reaches out to stop him
red guy does stop, but goes over to a big plug and disconnects it. this is him pulling the plug on his work with roy. he then goes to create the show again, on his own, with no sponsors and a lower budget, and the date is june 20th
keep in mind, in every episode before that, where roy was in control, it was june 19th, 1955. that was fathers day. roy had control since being yellow guys father on fathers day, yellow guy would feel guilty not doing everything his dad told him to
once its june 20th, we see the characters as what they said their favourite colours were in the first episode.
Roy sponsoring red guy was just a scheme to punish his son and twist his mind, and it was also to sponsor his products. in episode 4+5, we see a ton of roys products, like roys oats and roys lentils. he was in it for the money.
the entire message of the show is that childrens shows put on television are usually holding twisted messages, ones corrupt due to not wanting kids to know too much, this is shown in episode 2 when bird starts explaining time in a more scientific way and the clock starts yelling at them until yellow guys ears literally start to bleed
basically red guy and bird try saving yellow guy, and eventually succeed, but due to the date and his lack of knowledge, yellow guy kept listening to his father and lost both of his (presumably) only friends
