Alternative subcultures are music based (and moral based when it comes to punk-based music.) It's hard for people to grasp that, somehow, and pointless discourse spins it's way back onto the more popular social media platforms every so often. For example, someone who wears perfectly normal clothes and doesn't dress up is just as alternative as someone who wears corpse paint and spikes- if they both listen to the same artists and have the same music tastes. I've also had so many people claim to me that alternative people can't be in more than one subculture, or else they're "posers," which isn't true. I can listen to Drowning Pool one moment and then listen to Fugazi the next and that still won't change how I dress, or what my morals are, or even what shows I go to.
People should be allowed to listen to and dress how they want, (within reason.) They shouldn't get called a fake fan or not alternative if they don't dress the way that people imagine that subculture. Besides, having fun and listening to music has become this huge competition online that I simply don't understand. Hope you enjoyed my pointless rant, lmao
