I don't know what it is about them, but Victorian dresses just look so good!! A blend of beautifully folded fabric that has lace and bows. I personally love a tight upper silhouette with a large bottom silhouette, and they just give! I know that corsets were a problem for women back then, but come on, corsets are back. And without as much societal pressure to have a certain body type (to an extent, men are still dogs).
Looking at older dresses though, I realize that most of the patterns are often too plain or are tacky. I think what really makes a good Victorian dress is a blend of pain fabric with intricate embellishing's like beads and lace flowers.
Don't even get me started on the accessories! A major aspect of Victorian dresses is the neckline; usually low cut or off the shoulders. This allows for big beautiful necklaces to be styled with the dresses. Highlighting their status and wealth, jewelry contained big jewels set by gold designs, usually of nature, which sprawled across the chest. They are absolutely beautiful and are full of details!
Finally the coat! A major aspect of one's outfit is the coat/jacket. to cut to the chase, I hate Victorian coats, at least most I have researched. If you are gonna have a small top, you have to have a bigger, pillow-y coat. Instead they often used a tailored version of what men's pea coats are today. ew. INSTEAD with a Victorian dress there should be long, royal, off the shoulder cloaks. Or something akin to our short puffer jackets, but made out of a cotton fabric and puffyier.
Did a little research, but most of my ideal versions of Victorian dresses are from Manga ;p
