With some styles getting a bit more traction again, some might say a full on revival, or even if you're reminiscing and want to find some stuff you once loved, I thought I'd share some tips for finding second hand clothing for subculture online. This will focus on emo/scene clothing but the same methods apply for every style and subculture and it might help you with finding clothing for cheaper while in a way also reducing what is put in landfills.
This will focus on eBay and Depop though you could apply this to other second hand apps that are available to you.
On both apps it is easier if you don't search terms like "emo", "scene", "y2k" etc as these are usually used to tag things which aren't what you want to look for, or you spend all day going through to find one or two things you like. Instead, search by brand, band or record label and a lot more things you want or things that are related will show up.
Both apps have search filters but imo ebay has the better of the two as it goes into more depth. With ebay utilize the price low-high and used item or new without tags filters. You can even filter to your specific budgets etc which is handy at times. With Depop the low-high feature is good however you need to keep on top of seller reviews as lots of things in my experience have been months old, reach out to the seller as well just to make sure.
Now onto the more fun part of this, what to look for when shopping for the style.
With bands and record labels it really depends on what music you listen to. Pick out some of your faves and search what label they're on currently or past labels they've been on.
Etsy is good for finding hand made bows and necklaces. Melissa Marie of the millionaires also sells custom bows modeled off of the ones she wears. I've seen people use things bought from claire's accessories work too.
some more known of brands to look out for:
Cupcake Cult
Living Dead Souls
Death Kitty
Jawbreaker
Criminal Damage
Drop Dead
Bleeding Star
Glamour Kills
Element
Babycakes
TWLOHA
Famous Stars and Straps
It feels that this is quiet long, so i will end this here but please let me know if this needs a part two and share some things you do as well 🖤🖤🖤
