neighbor boundaries

last week, i come back home from the store, and there's something going on at the house next door. to wit: there are lots of cop cars there. my casual estimate would be somewhere between "a lot" and "most of them," in fact. what the heck is going on? it seemed absolutely inappropriate to march onto the scene and request details, but i am absolutely within my rights to go check the town police blotter approximately, oh, now. should it explain things, well, i'm not the sort to actively gossip, but this neighborhood is full of people who love to bend the postman's ear for 45 minutes and if i get corralled someone may get it out of me
