Yknow, it rlly pisses me off when people say that turning red is inappropriate or not suitable for little kids. like god dam stfu.
one of the most satisfying things about the movie for me is it's relatability. Obviously not all aspects. There are also themes of family trauma, expectations and traditions that i cannot relate to as i am not cantonese/chinese. But the periods, embarrasing mum's, (lol) overhwelmng emotions. they hit hard. I literally forced my 10 year old sister to sit down and watch it with me to save her from the same perils i went through.
I started my period when i was 11 (sorry if im oversharing) and along with that came the extremities of anger and sadness. If i had seen a movie that had themes like turning red when i was 11, things would have been so much less confusing and isolating for me
(isolating coz all my friends were boys. i needed some relatable women on tv)
If you're still reading, you can tell this little rant is going absolutely nowhere, and i know theres no middleaged overprotective catholic parents on this website to read this. but please just let your kids watch it with out turning off disney + in a blind rage. Teach your girls its ok to have emotions and how to control them without surpressing them. teach them puberty is natural and support them through it, instead of shaming the hell out of them. hell, teach the boys that too.
This had no point and is probably super cringey but idc, had to get it out there
