Diary entry 1 - Independence of children

Yes, I'm just gonna post about radome topics, that I talk to myself about at work.

So today I had a long day at work at [Supermarket] and the first highlight of the day that stuck with me was this kid who walked up to the bananas and went "Hello sexy banana VERY GOOD VERY NICEEEE, VERYYY GOOD VERYY NICEEEE" I wanted to finish it, but a lot of people probably wouldn't understand.

Anyway, let's talk about the part I wanted to talk about. The Independence of children. I have talked about this topic with my boyfriend, so we usually compare our countries, since he is from America, and I am from the Netherlands. And I was shocked at how kids over there almost have no ability to be independent. 

So today in the store 3 girls were walking around ages 6-10 I assumed, and they knew my coworker so i overheard their conversation. In short, they were just doing groceries for that day because their mom would work till late today. This is something pretty normal, and none sees this as weird or special. But then I think about where my boyfriend lives, and I don't think that kids that age could but also would not be allowed out by themselves to go groceries shopping.

I like that this is a bicycle country because just that alone already teaches and gives people from a young age so much independence. I remember when I was in elementary school and would hang out with my friends, we would sometimes go shopping or just get ice cream or go to the park. And after dinner, we would ride our bikes to dance class. No parents bringing everyone everywhere. Biking and walking here is of course a lot safer and if a bike crash happens (definitely with a kid involved) people will always help. 

Idk I'm just going on and on now. About biking, but just independence in general. I was shocked to hear that my boyfriend did not have a bank account. There u just do that later I guess. For here, kid usually open their first bank account at the age of 9, that's when I opened mine at least. It is a kid account, tho, which means you can't go in debt and your parents can see what you buy. My parent never checked this tho because they respect privacy.

Well I guess that was all about my day today, I worked for 8 hours got home ate now I have 2 hours of free time before I have to go to bed and wake up to woke 9 more hours tomorrow :)....
