how have we humans rested so much of our
profound affection on three little
essentially meaningless words that
we have treated as the very center of
the foundation of our society as if
they are the sun that guides the universe
into life?
“i love you.”
we say them but how would they ever
convey to anyone the intense feeling
that eradiates off an enraptured soul
that has been enamoured with its object
of affection?
how are these tiny words spaced in letters
of one-four-three supposed to represent
all of the passionate answers that our
tiny hearts so desire in another?
we say them and when we say them what
we really mean is
you have made me happier than i have been
in my entire life and that scares me so
fucking much,
we really mean i will support you,
unconditionally,
for as many years of my life as i can ever
hope to give you which might only be
a few months because who knows,
you may grow tired of me,
but i will never cease to be amazed by you
and your smile.
we say “i love you” not expecting anything
in return because we throw ourselves so
perfectly upon this creation of god
or whatever exists in a perfect world
that overlooks ours to be able to say that
yes, man is beautiful.
compassion is the smile on your
soulmate’s face and the laugher sparking
beneath their eyes.
“till death do us part” sings the preachers
but what they don’t understand is that
even in death i am right beside you
because our love is
ethereal, infinity.
