What I've Been Up To. . .

It has been a long ass time since I've been on here. I have no clue how other social media sites have the power to pull me in and trap me considering how much I have grown to despise them. I'm really hoping I can begin to post here more and I'm starting with a blog about my bedroom renovation and the projects that I've completed. I've become quite proud of these two specific projects and I'd like to share them with y'all.

First off is my vanity. As much as I'd like to have the grandiose gothified furniture from the likes of Haunt Cult or Absolom Roche, my wallet has given a resounding hell no and I had to settle for a basic black starter vanity from Home Depot. I replaced the bronze knobs that came with it with blue jeweled knobs and I reupholstered the stool using a blue winged skull fabric from a seller known as The Calvarium on Spoonflower. I actually have that print in two different fabrics to use on different projects in my room in order for it all to match. Now the vanity was not a big project by any means but it now looks like it belongs in my room and I never reupholstered anything before so I was very proud of how it came out.

Now for a slightly bigger and intimidating project, the lamps. Now the lamp bodies are just basic black ones from Walmart but the lampshades are vintage ones I bought on eBay. Heavily inspired by the Gothic Homemaking series on The Lair of Voltaire on YouTube, I preceded to strip them and recover them in the blue winged skull fabric from Spoonflower as well as black fabric, trim, and fringe from different craft stores to produce the beautiful lampshades you see before you. This was a time consuming task and I made a few mistakes, but I managed to correct them and now that I know what I'm doing I know that when I recover the lampshade of an antique floor lamp I recently acquired it'll go a lot more smoothly.

I also recently purchased black beddings and a black bed and breakfast tray and I have black bedside tables that I replaced the knobs with the blue jeweled knobs like my vanity, but I'm only mentioning them here because they are pictured with the lamps.

So happy to be back and I can't wait to share future projects with all of you!
