the batman (2022) singlehandedly revived a genre that the mcu murdered in cold blood

i LOVE marvel, i always have, i always will. i was practically SPOONFED spider-man content when i was in a high chair (which i distinctly remember falling out of but. thats a story for another day). so it was natural for me to become rapidly obsessed with the mcu and i was/am!! i watched the entire mcu and caught up right before endgame and went to go see it in theaters opening night (insane energy. also story for another day). however, the more and more mcu movies i consume, the more and more i realize that the definition of what it is to be a "superhero" is slowly fading away into obscurity and is being replaced with insane fight scenes and random cgi that takes like. 5 years to make

i think that there are core tennants to being a superhero (i can list them, it's embarassing, i have them in a google doc 💀) and the batman touches on EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM and either protrays it flawlessly or handles it with absolute GRACE.

there's been a lot of arguments lately abt how characters don't need relatability in order to be considered good characters and that's completely true!! for the most part. you dont need to be able to see yourself reflected on screen but what you need to do is be able to see the humanity behind the character and be able to connect with them, which is something that lies completely on the shoulders of the people MAKING THESE MOVIES ABOUT HEAVILY BELOVED CHARACTERS!!! although that is one part that i feel like hasn't been completely dashed out by the wave of "superhero movie" but still. like if kick-ass can do it with some rando that doesnt have decades of lore starting in the 1920s, WHY CANT CAPTAIN MARVEL?? anyways, the batman does a PERFECT job at making these connections AND making them with audience that might not be familiar with him prior to seeing the movie. jesus ive talked way too long abt this and im not even TO THE POINT I WANTED TO MAKE
