tongues of the gods given to us in the forms of songs

There’s something so inexplicably.. human, about singing hymns or reciting passages in the tongue they were originally written in;

Singing ancient Christmas songs in church Latin, or mumbling an old Egyptian prayer for prosperity under your breath

Although the gods they preached about have forsaken us, it still makes me a little calmer to pray to something that doesn’t know of my existence.
