Last weekend, I watched both The Batman and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) with a few of my friends. While I really liked The Batman (emo Robert Pattingson is extremely attractive), I really think that the producers behind Texas Chainsaw Massacre could have done better. It was just mediocre in general and it seemed like the producers weren't entirely sure what they were doing. There's a lot of uncomfortable moments and scenes, and the ending seemed like it was just slapped on to make it """"shocking""""" and really did nothing for the overall plot. The entire subplot with Sally was weird too-- the writers tried to make her into a #girlboss like what was done with Laurie Strode and Sydney Prescott, but it was just so ham-fisted and unnatural that it felt like a Scream (2022) ripoff. In general, I wouldn't reccomend watching it. You know it's bad when one of the best scenes in the whole movie is the "Do anything and you're cancelled, bro!" bus scene.
On a more positive note, I really liked The Batman. Not only was every actor and character extremely attractive, it took clear inspiration from slasher movies, which I really enjoyed. It was a good mix of old and new, and while I was tentative about the changes made to the Riddler at first, I really like what they went with. A good chunk of the filmography is beautiful, and there was an extended scene featuring a shirtless Robert Pattingson. It was a little long-winded at times, but it didn't feel like there were any uncessary scenes to add to the runtime. I'd reccomend it, even if you aren't a DC fan, purely for it's horror elements and just general good characterization.
