I am a true crime enthusiast and I enjoy reading true crime stories, but It's caused me to think, is it odd to enjoy true crime? We're literally reading the most gruesome stories told to the internet for our own entertainment. It makes me think that since so many people enjoy and hyperfixate on true crime, if people will commit devious crimes just to be in someone's next article. To be interested and enjoy reading some serial killer's story to the point where you read up on it from curiousity and entertainment. Maybe it's more of me trying to understand the perpetrator and seeing why they think that why, like psychology. Maybe some people just see it as a horror story, which horror fans are fine but the unsettling part is that e're enjoying true horror stories. Knowing that they are true and that we are consuming content that happened somewhere in the real world feels illegal. These are my thoughts of today.
True crime, is it weird to find it entertaining?

I understand that thought, as I myself also delves into the themes of true crime it can make you question the morality of it, although some people definitely exploit cases for their own benefit, I think as long as you take into account the victim and their families feelings it's fine, exploiting someone's suffering for your own personal gain is when the line is drawn, watching true crime can be weird but only with the reason for watching it, you can find it interesting it is, psychology, sociology, ect, are all things that are fascinating as they give us insight on human behaviour, but also by being able to watch cases we have the chance to become more aware and potentially provent future similar cases

it def can be creepy if ppl become too obsessed with it and start having urges to do something similar, but tbh i don't think its inherently wrong? i'm a criminology major bc i grew up watching stuff like dateline and 48 hours and it really piqued my interest.
bottom line ig like...be careful with how ur consuming this content and try to remain respectful i.e. not saying so and so's murder is you FAVORITE murder, but rather the case is interesting to you
