Carp Dori: my regular Sunday haunt

Every Sunday I hit up Carp Dori, an izakaya with a really good happy hour.

Like I said: happy hour draft beer prices rule.

Current COVID restrictions allow for max 50 percent capacity. Fortunately they left a couple seats open at the counter. Humbug when watching TV and chatting it up with a clear tarp in the way but, oh wells.

Yakitori is the main item at The Carp. However they also have a few varieties of ramen. Also you can't go wrong with stuff like french fries at any izakaya.

The restaurant is actually a chain from Japan. The entire concept is patterned after fandom for the Hiroshima Carp, a baseball team in the Japan Central League. I'm sure the wall dressing of baseball caps and jerseys aren't truly appreciated by the locals (or non-baseball fans in general). I feel it does give the place a unique flavor: a comfortable, working-class feel. The people are cool too (everybody speaks English, thankfully) and that might be the one thing that brings me back every week.
