For the love of Ms. Angelou…

I did not know
that i was singing in the Alphabet
these sorrow songs of pain
this suffering within loneliness
To Fear weakness with romance
to resign yourself to your faith
for one person standing on the word of God IS the majority!
Holding an open door to creation!
We fuel new world inhabitants
we are known simply as the
Bar stool people
and in this awakening summer
we become Good Parents
to our new born child
that we have named
Freedom.
I can tell you this
that i have never seen such courage
as when the human of this being woman
did take from her hair
A long silvered sharpened pin
that from her great grandmother one hundred years
earlier did begin
That she did take this clasp of love
and jam straight from her faith
into the shouldered heart of racism!
corn silk hair
faces white as milk
beautiful faces but fat ain’t they?
the absurdity
of discrimination
segregation and unfairness
the one-sidedness of bigotry
killed me on my birthday
fell me back to mutism
but i have sworn never to despair
i went to someplace so far beyond you
i chose to do with my story
to put it down to words
how the writing hibernates
inside the marrow of my very bones
i can’t seem to shake it
i can’t get rid of it!
like the ubiquitous nature of cat hair!
It’s Everywhere!
It’s on my skin
It is a part of me Now!
one could argue
that existentialism is nothing
but ambiguity with a head ache!
To know love you just need to speak the truth
get loose with your words
find the way to tell your story
Tell your story with a voice as big as God!
or
A mothers Love
Baby’s taken by their feet and slung hard into the trees
so they wouldn't know slavery
so they wouldn't feel the chafing of rusted iron
against the innocence of their skin!
Each of you have been paid for..
i have forgiven myself
i have gotten up
you are enough
get your work done
put it into your brain
and
somewhere perhaps in the bend of your elbow
thank God that we get to live in our time!!

Love this as much as I love Nikki Giovanni. This is hard for us to do, but I think this is well done.
