important songs of my existence pt. 1

i've got no way to try to cleverly introduce this list because i am an idiot on my best day. here are some songs from my life that were important to me for one reason or another and the reasons why. probably some over-analyzing of lyrics too. who knows? you're probably the only person to read this, reader. read on.

Chris Travis - Stayin True

https://www.youtube.com/embed/vRUlIAb4pNY

i found this junt when i was super heavy into Raider Klan when i was first trying to go to college the first time i tried to get my shit together. it was during a period in my life where i was trying to figure out lanes i really fell into with the shit i liked. i was spending a lot of time on /fa/ shitposting and designing old school JDM style slaps before the instagram kids caught onto it and ruined that look. anyway, the beat on this song is fucking absurd and the way Chris Travis effortlessly waltzes over this shit is immaculate. the beat switch feels like you're getting checked for relaxing too hard. the way he modulates his voice with the bass line is hella subtle but super important and the bars are relatable and dope. the stick out to me has always been "my wardrobe vintage i dont fuck with finish line." i feel that. fuck finish line. this shit dropped in 2012 before ig ruined the vintage scene too. thats a-whole-nother post tho.

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

(trust me you want the long version. dont fuck with me.)

yo get this, its 2001. you're sitting criss cross applesauce on the floor with your brand fucking new playstation 2 hooked up to the nicest 32 inch television your family could get at the time for you to play the dog shit out of some Gran Turismo 3. you're 6 years old and cars are the fucking coolest thing on the planet, except the lame ass corolla you'll come to find out 9 years later is actually really fucking sweet. so you do the Sunday Cup race 30 times for 1000 credits each to buy a Mustang GT Cobra R. aka the highest T mustang ever produced. this song rules fucking hard though. its in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 also, which is probably one of the greatest games ever also. RIP Dave Mirra. fucking legend.

Kendrick Lamar - Ignorance is Bliss

https://www.youtube.com/embed/brgdPQsZ3pw

this was the first song i had ever heard from Kendrick Lamar, if i remember correctly somebody had posted it on twitter and i found it there. i think it was this dude aaron so if it was him lets all say thanks for putting me on. either way, my head was completely blown off by the way Kendrick could fucking rap. i had been really into Rhyme Asylum a few years prior and figured i couldn't really be impressed with an MCs skills anymore until i heard this song. K.dot has always had an incredible talent for being really fucking good and simultaneously telling a story. not to take away from any of his other work which is all fucking great but there is a real rawness to Ignorance is Bliss, dunno what it is but its there.

anyway, theres an incoherent rambling about a few songs i like that i can remember. none of these are ranked or curated in any shape or form. as songs i remember pop into my head ill write them down and post more of these even if nobody reads them. shout outs to WingsOfRedemption
