This is an answer blog post to this post.
I drew maps from grammar school age on just for fun (what a weird hobby)
They were mostly imagined but I oriented of real city maps more and more.
One day I thought, what a nerddy hobby and burnt many of the bad ones. I guess this is one of the earliest surviving:
As you see, it doesn't look anything like a landscape would look like. The names in this are mustly random words.
The next one is from my most active time to draw maps and consists of 6 A4 pages, I have some bigger maps too, covering many different villages and towns. I was too lazy to rotathe them into the right position, but I think you can imagine them as a whole
The names in those plans are inspired by Austrian place names. And as you see it gets a bit more realistic. I drew plans with woods, borders and even bus lines befor, but mostly I didn't.
This one is of the same time, but more fantasy-like and colored woods
You see, very unrealistic.
I stopped doing this regularly and once I talked with a friend about that weird hobby, and I drew one for her. At this time I already mapped on openstreetmap and that helped me creating better landscapes.
Yeah, and the houses finally aren't stupid squares anymore! xD
The most recent map I made is this, it is in a imagined language again that's like a poorly made creole of my dialect and faroese words with a very unusual script. The landscape is inspired of faroese villages (the name for example should resemble Gjógv, the village itself Haldórsvík, of course only to a little extend). It's unfinished, though.
So I hope you enjoyed watching the maps :) I didn't give up on them, but at the time I'm not really wanting to draw. As I mentioned, I map for Openstreetmap, what is basically the same but in real. It even helps society by providing a better map for them :D

Thank you! I'm relatively busy at the moment, so I don't find time time to draw. But that doesn't mean I will never draw again :D
