coffee (spoken word poem)

I like my men how I like my coffee.
I hate coffee.
And I tried really hard to like it, because everybody likes coffee, right?
Except, I don't think they do.
I think everybody thinks they like coffee, or they think they're supposed to like coffee.
Because, coffee gets you out of bed right?
Coffee gets you in your car, and down the street to your job.
Coffee is the stupid little $6 that you spend every morning, because you can't break the routine.
They say, "Abby, maybe you should try a different roast, a different brew.
Try a bold, try a medium, no, try a blonde."
They all taste like dirt.
There is no amount of cream or sugar or artificial flavoring-
or sweet cream cold foam (thank you Starbucks), that will make that coffee bearable.
And did you know it rots your teeth, too?
And not in the sweet way like honey and green tea does,
but in a mean, angry and bitter kind of way.
"Abby, maybe you should try a different cup."
I am so sick and tired of every cup coffee not being the right one for me.
There is no latte, or espresso, or cappuccino, or macchiato that will make that $6 worth it.
Because at the end of the day, I still hate coffee, and am $6 poorer.
I like my men how I like my coffee.
