Last night, I was watching Lain (as I do most nights TuT) and the episode had random parts popping up in a documentary style about these guys and this thing called "Xanadu." I was assuming it was fake, but looked it up and it's real !
That sent me down a MASSIVE rabbit hole.
Bc, Xanadu was created/thought of before the internet, and is like a different flavor of it. From my understanding, it's a network of documents that have a real life counterpart, and is a service that needs micropayments to publish the documents physically, too. It's a very interesting idea! If my understanding is correct, it's like archives of the internet!
The shitposting is wild to imagine though...
Imagine, just, "penis" written on a document, filed at a facility. Like what??
But, apparently, Ted Nelson (the leader of the Project Xanadu) had an idea to like...link everything in a "world"
Not a tangible world, but more like a technological version of an ecosystem.
I don't know though, since I didn't see much like that when I scanned the wikipedia page.
If anyone knows more about Project Xanadu, please tell me! I'd love for my understanding to grow! ^_^
