midwest emo and folk punk

it's weird. i rlly like it tho lol. maybe i'm just projecting but it reminds me a lot of loneliness and yearning, which a lot of humans go through.

i think midwest emo, because of it coming from emo (with a less punk-rock approach), a lot of it has a very lost and wandering feel to it, and it also has a lot of teenage angst, just more "tired so im going back to sleep after crying for a bit" and less "tired so im gonna cry while screaming at the sky".

that.... that doesnt make sense but it made sense in my head.

folk punk comes more directly from punk, hence the name, i think it is a little angrier than midwest emo, because yknow, it's still punk music. It does seem a lot more literal, at least when it comes to AJJ and Days N Daze. It reminds me more of (and don't come for my throat when i say this, I honestly hate the names of generations, thank you TikTok,) midwest emo for more older generations. Maybe older gen z or millennials, but I can see people from gen x relating to these songs as well.

anyway thank you for coming to my grammatically incorrect and structurally messy ramble about music i like

it's because midwest emo started in chicago in the suburbs mostly relating to the loneliness and familiarity of usual routines and how they're gone and since math rock plays a large part in the guitar compositions and riffs it gives that calculated sound to make you drift into your own thoughts as most knowingly seen and heard in never meant by american football :)

I get it like when i started listening to Midwest emo like it is weird to explain it because it's good music and it has that feeling of yearning that you don't really get to hear a lot 🦇
