Once Revealed @ Bad Habits Bar and Grill on 4/23

First off, let me introduce myself: I’m Vern, one half of the guitars and one third of the vocals in the band. If you’ve listened to our songs or seen us live, I’m the one screaming very loudly opposite the beautiful voices of Scott and Will.

I’ll be using this blog to catalog our gigs because... well... why not? Anyway, here goes:

We were second on a bill of four bands off a major highway running through Martinsburg, West Virginia at a bar called Bad Habits.

Apt name, let me tell you.

When we arrived to load in, we were told we would be loading in before going on. Unusual but permissible. I walked in to see that there was a stage on one end, a bar on the other, and some provided tables to peddle our wares for gas money.

We looked around a little longer before deciding Chinese food was a solid plan for dinner to feed the troops and off we went.

Returning to the bar the first band, Cannon Hill, was playing a pretty groovy rock and roll tune. Complete with a frontman whose voice competes with a young Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder, a guitarist who lays down the licks, and a locked in rhythm section- they provided an overall enjoyable performance, and I looked forward to the next song- but then the frontman delivered a stern “thank you, good night! Once Revealed is up next!”

Nate and Scott looked at each other and Will and I made for the door to get the truck. We scrambled to get our gear ready.

Thankfully we loaded in fast and made it to the stage ten minutes before 9 and performed to a fairly shoulder to shoulder dance floor and bar who seemed genuinely entertained throughout the set.

Set list:
Enjoy the Show
Take It Away
Believin’
Lost in Transition
Slight Delay
Still Waiting
Crimes Against Humanity
Illusions

Three technical notes about this performance: my mic was having issues throughout Enjoy the Show, we replaced it and had no issues going forward with that... but I dropped my Jaguar during Slight Delay... and I broke another string at this gig like the last one, but during the last song thankfully. Overall very happy with the way it went although maybe a little sloppy.

Up after us was Faerie’s Death Waltz, an art metal band which blends black metal and an operatic singer into a stunning display of technical prowess and eroticism with use of leather straps and chains by the band on one another during their performance. I was left thoroughly impressed to say the least.

Finally, headlining the event was Finding Dimes, a hometown hero act to the area. The three piece, normally featuring four musicians, played a unique infusion of post grunge and hard rock. Many of their choruses were catchy and fun to sing along to, and the drummer drove through song after song relentlessly as the crowd danced along and cheered.

Nearing midnight, the Dimes played their final hurrah and we all packed it in, saying our goodbyes.

Thank you to anyone who may have joined us, we’ll be back again like a BAD HABIT 4/30/21 at the same venue- headlining this time! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
