Kirby Anime Sub and Dub Episode 11 comparison

This episode.... this episode is spicy! Tons of great jokes that'll have you laughing.

The basic plot is that a famous chef is coming to Pupupu Village, and Dedede wants to impress him with his cooking (by his, I mean his castle's cooking). The chef is basically this show's Gordon Ramsey. His name is Oosaka in Japanese, and Shiitake in the dub. This will be important later. So seeing how his castle's chef (the Waddle Dees) is a terrible cook, Dedede decides to hire chef Kawasaki... who is also a terrible cook. Worst of all, Oosaka is Kawasaki's cooking teacher. This causes Kawasaki to panic seeing as how his cooking still just as bad. So out of desperation, Dedede goes to Holy Nightmare for the most delicious cooking ingredient thinking a delicious ingredient will impress the chef, and Nightmare sends a cook book instead. When they noticed the ingredient Zebon kinda looks like Kirby, Dedede hatches a plan to swap the picture with Kirby and get Kawasaki to cook Kirby to serve to his master. This all culminates into a battle where we find out this chef Oosaka was a monster in disguise, and Kirby getting the title Court Chef in Dedede's castle.

Oh my god this episode's hilarious. In addition to the gags in the Japanese original, we also get hilarious new puns. Dedede nicknames Kawasaki, Kawayucki. I actually found myself calling him that occasionally. 4Kids also went and made a Shiitake pun by calling the book "A Crook of Shiitake." There are also funny scenes like Dedede trying to cook Escargoon, or Kirby being oblivious to Kawasaki wanting to cook him. Kirby's just chilling and relaxing like he's getting a massage while Kawasaki salt and peppers him.

Although Oosaka was actually a monster in this episode, he's also a reoccurring character that we'll see more of later. Oosaka sounds good in both English and Japanese. I like both versions.

The biggest cut I noticed was the wine scene. When Oosaka arrives, it actually starts with Dedede pouring him a glass of wine before bringing the salad. Drinking was a no-no in a Saturday morning cartoon, so that got cut. Yet they somehow managed to sneak a relatively adult joke in this episode. Honestly, they could have just changed it to grape juice in the English dub, but I know they also trim scenes just so they can fit more commercials in the English dub.
