1st Blog Post

Wow. I haven't written a blog post in AGES. I used to use Xanga, then MySpace, then Facebook's Notes option (if that's what it was called). Eventually, I used Tumblr for a while but kind of faded off using it.

It's hard to keep up with so many social media apps sometimes. I use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Goodreads, and who knows what else. I probably have others on my phone that I have forgotten about. I like to use this site from my computer like I used to use MySpace. Back before there was the option to edit from your phone - though it did eventually happen. Back before everything was so polarized, or at least it didn't seem to be.

I have been thinking lately about how it could be nice to blog again. So, why not?

At this point, what do you write about in a first blog post that nobody will probably read? LOL

I suppose a bit about me. The briefest rundown of who I am. What a challenge.

I'm a mom. That's probably the biggest part of my life. When you have children, you don't only make decisions for yourself. Every decision you make impacts children that are growing and learning how this world works and where they belong in it. No pressure or anything.

My current hobbies are collecting and caring for houseplants, reading, playing video games, and of course social networking.

Some recent reads have been: Practical Magic, Rules of Magic, Andromeda Strain, It Didn't Start With You, Will I Ever Be Good Enough?, and I'm currently reading Do No Harm. I have feedback about all of them if you're curious. I also generally try to leave a brief review or some sort of rating on Goodreads. Also have a ton of books lined up to read soon.

Video games that I've been playing over the last year or so: Sims 4, Animal Crossing, Civilization 5, Fallout Shelter, Theme Hospital, Two Point Hospital, Pokemon Go, Pokemon Shield, Tetris 99, Family Feud, Just Dance, Mario, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Trivial Pursuit, Puyo Puyo, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Words With Friends, Street Fighter II, and maybe some more that I'm forgetting at the moment. I enjoy playing games.

As far as how I identify in various parts of my life, I'd say I am bisexual and/or pansexual (they're synonymous to me but that's a whole other topic that I can share another time), I am a cis woman, and currently have a cis male partner. I'm in a monogamous relationship, though I have been in polyamorous relationships in the past. I'm currently 31, with a birthday coming in July. I'm a Leo, if you care about Astrology. High school graduate with some college - I never did decide what to be when I grow up.

Presently, there is simultaneously not a lot going on and a lot going on in my life. Does that make sense? Probably not, but it's how it feels. We've been sitting at home to help prevent further spread of COVID. My partner and I are both fully vaccinated so we have recently seen my grandparents for the first time in quite a while, which was nice. There is some family drama going a bit over how a minor in the family is being treated by some family members and how we're all responding to it (whole other story I could ramble on about). My partner and I work for the same company, and are both working from home across the kitchen table from one another. We get along really well but we are both very ready to be back in the office and not working from home (maybe sometimes, but not every day). AND we are getting ready to move.

Our realtor is coming tomorrow to look over the house and discuss a plan to get it on the market and move into a bigger house. Since my kids and I have merged households with my partner, it has been a bit crowded. He bought this house without knowing he'd gain a whole family. :) So, we just need to get some more space for us all. I'm quite excited and also pretty nervous for the process. Also sad to leave behind the little squirrel family that is living in our tree. They recently had babies and they're ADORABLE.

That was a lot. I'll write again another time. Thanks for reading, if you did.

I LOVE READING BLOGS I'm an avid blogger (about non-work stuff anyway) and my blog section is probably 90% the creative writing output I've churned out over the past twenty years. Sometimes there'll be essays and introspections, but not often.

I feel as though I will mostly use it for diary-like entries. My thoughts and feelings. Experiences. Etc. Perhaps I'll use it for creative writing at some point. It used to be a big part of my life, but hasn't been for many years.

My journal-diary hybrid thing is kept on a google doc I call my "Captain's Log" (yes, stolen from Star Trek haha) and I very rarely show it to anyone, even my wife. It's mainly meant to let me vent off steam so I don't stomp around screaming and slamming cabinet doors and stuff. Because I get rage attacks sometimes when my temper goes completely out of control. I think there's a name for it - Intermittent Explosive Disorder - but I'm not sure how to get an official diagnosis for it.

That sounds like a good alternative to blow off steam! I definitely won't be posting anything too personal here probably. Just things I don't mind sharing.

Love the Star Trek reference, by the way!

I like opening up online, I know that can always be a bit scary and uncomfortable, though. As such, I try to be reasonable about it. Some info I'm not willing to share (my wife doesn't like the idea of me giving out my real phone number on here) so that's why I ask everyone to connect with me on Discord or WhatsApp instead.

And yeah, there are some traumas, both done to me and done to others, that I don't want to shareabout, so I don't.

That's perfectly understandable! I have a whole laundry list of traumas myself. Life if complicated and painful. I do like sharing where appropriate. It can just be a bit scary to be vulnerable on the internet sometimes. You never know who may find it or how they may use that information.

Yeah, exactly! By the way, I tried to respond to your layout bulletin, but the site told me "I didn't have permission to view this bulletin" so O.o but also, I know a few layout-makers who are absolute wizards at it: Aleeex and Cory. So go check them out, and tell 'em I sent you!

Oh sorry about that! I ended up deleting it after I found that there was a whole layout section on here now LOL

Ah, I kinda figured, because that's what I was going to say!
