Three Days Grace - Transit of Venus (Album Review)

Transit of Venus is the fourth studio album by Three Days Grace. It was also the first to be released under RCA Records after Jive Records was discontinued on October 7, 2011.

However, the album has garnered some pretty negative reviews compared to the others, mainly due to the fact that the band went out and hired country hit songwriters to write most of the record.

Another reason it received a lot of backlash from fans is because the band’s lead singer Adam Gontier quit less than 3 months after the album’s release date, which he stated in a long Facebook post was for many different reasons, but one major factor that he mentioned was due to “creative differences”. The other members wanted to go for a more radio friendly style while Adam wanted to write whatever he felt like, so he shortly parted ways with them altogether.

Personally though, I think it does get way too much hate and that it is a bit undeserved. Is it as good as their previous albums? No. Not even close, but it’s still got some pretty awesome tracks on it. Chalk Outline, Anonymous, Happiness, Give Me A Reason, Broken Glass, and Unbreakable Heart, just to name a few.

So overall, I’d give this one an 8/10. No album will ever top One-X or the self-titled album for me, but this one is pretty good too. At least better than the 2 that came after it.
