New work: Die Grotte des schlafenden Titanen

I started this piece without a clue of where I was going with it beyond just pulling out the color palette that I wanted to use.  I fought with it for about a week, on and off…thinning paint, smearing paint, darkening one area, lightening another.

I’d say it took me probably a week of setting it aside and stewing over it before I finally saw it.  Once I did, it came together in a matter of about a day and a half.

I’ve let paint run before simply to add some feature of interest or texture to the background area, but I think this is the first time I’ve tried to make a central feature from it.  The process from this piece has given me some thoughts for a future landscape piece that I’m still turning over in my head.
