Nomad Chronicles, The Tenth Verse: On the edge of everything, at the beginning of nothing?

My host in Angleton asked me to leave early and didn't give a partial refund, so I was screwed out of the sixty dollars it costed me to book another place and the cost for gas. I brought it up in the review but I don't think that he cared.

My pit stop was in San Antonio, near the Air Force Base in a place called Converse. I made sure to see The Alamo while I was there. The long barracks must've been cleaned recently because it smelled nice.
The church around which The Alamo was built looked more like a small chapel. The names of the people who fought in its defense were on plaques in the back of the church. Aside from that, San Antonio looked very much like a tourist trap, lots of paid parking and hotels.
My hostess was an NCO in the US Army reserves, and for the first time I binged Netflix on my own, other than that she had cats so that was nice.
When I arrived in Laredo the city wasn't what I expected. On that day specifically, not many restaurants had the option of dining in and the downtown area seemed very run-down. There were a ton of stray dogs and cats all over town and in the neighborhoods so I drove very carefully.
My hostess was a nice lady named LindaRuth, she showed me around the house and told me a little about the area. She's a nurse and works nights so there was no upsetting her with noise and my other roommates were far enough away that I wouldn't bother them either.
I've already booked my Air BnB in Monterrey, and if I'm being honest I'm still anxious about it. I'm going to take a Greyhound bus to Monterrey and the Air BnB isn't far from the station, I also have a former student who lives in the area not far from where I booked. I don't think it gets any safer than that, so it isn't danger that's bothering me. I can't really put my finger on it.
