i don't have the same brain as somebody who does this, so i'm not exactly the kind of person who can speak on this,,, but i'll take a guess: it is likely a part of psychology people have taken from modern social media, and likely how they use spacehey compared to others
everybody uses spacehey very differently. and it happens that some people generally only care about their profile and/or their friend count instead of actually becoming close and being on playdate level with others.
a lot of people just happen to only care about adding a lot of people and sometimes posting bulletins, rather than actually becoming closer to others! and people who are on here for more than that, get super frustrated by that, very reasonably so

People use this as like social media or sum,they treat friends here like followers which is why they're the friend collectors, tho sumtimes on a rare day they're actually too scared to talk first but most times its just sum1 wanting the whole "I'm sooo retroo I miss this" kinda profile vibe :b
it is honestly 50/50! some people generally don't use 100% of spacehey, some people genuinely just struggle to interact with others to varying degrees, some people genuinely don't give a fuck about anything but popularity and attention.
it's about the person really, everybody has a motivation and some people just see spacehey as another instagram, or another twitter for example
