mood: confused, betrayed by the plot, and craving candy π¬
currently listening to: what's wrong with me by Olivia Rodrigo π§
haiiii internet strangers!!! <333
sooooo apparently my life has decided that halloween needs its own entire DRAMA SERIES this year.
AND IT'S NOT EVEN HALLOWEEN YET.
like HELLO??? can we at least make it to october 31st before the plot twists start??? π
anyways, let me explain because this entire situation has been a ROLLER COASTER.
βq°⩠the original plan π
so originally, me and my friends had this whole halloween plan.
we were gonna go trick-or-treating together, have a sleepover afterward, and just have the BEST NIGHT EVER.
we even had a whole group chat dedicated to planning everything.
AND WE HAD COSTUMES PLANNED!!!
me and one of my best friends were going to be Max and Eleven from Stranger Things (i was Eleven, OBVIOUSLY), and another friend was going to be Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson.
was it a completely coordinated group costume??? no.
was it iconic anyway??? ABSOLUTELY.
i was SO excited because halloween with your best friends is literally one of those high school memories you look forward to making.
BUT THERE WAS ONE TINY PROBLEM.
βq°⩠operation: convince the parentsβ’ ππ
SOOOOO here's the thing.
i was technically STILL GROUNDED.
YEP.
GROUNDED.
DURING HALLOWEEN SEASON.
which meant that before i could even THINK about having the best halloween ever, i had to convince my parents to actually let me go.
and how did i decide to do that???
A SLIDESHOW.
A WHOLE. ENTIRE. SLIDESHOW.
AND I SPENT TWO HOURS MAKING IT.
TWO. HOURS.
i was sitting there putting together an entire presentation like i was pitching a multimillion-dollar business proposal.
except instead of asking investors for money, i was asking my parents for permission to dress up as Eleven and collect candy with my friends π
like HELLO??? WHY AM I DEFENDING MY HALLOWEEN PLANS LIKE A COLLEGE THESIS???
the amount of effort i was putting into this was actually INSANE.
and the funniest part???
ALL THIS WORK WAS FOR PLANS THAT WERE ABOUT TO FALL APART ANYWAY.
WHICH BRINGS ME TO...
βq°⩠the plot twist nobody ordered π
so one of my friends, who was supposed to be hosting the sleepover, decided she was going to a different halloween party instead.
WHICH, OKAY, FINE.
BUT THEN THE ENTIRE SLEEPOVER GOT CANCELED.
LIKE GIRL WHAT??? π
we went from having this whole night planned to suddenly having absolutely NO PLAN.
and the group chat???
SHE SAID SHE WAS GONNA DELETE IT.
THE GROUP CHAT WAS GETTING EVICTED TOO??? π
i'm sorry but the dramatic irony of having a whole halloween planning group chat just for the plans to disappear is actually INSANE.
and i'm not saying anyone isn't allowed to change their plans, because obviously they are.
but i was honestly pretty disappointed.
i'd been looking forward to this for a while, and suddenly everything was changing.
βq°⩠operation: find new plans πΈοΈ
SOOOO now we had to figure out what we were actually doing for halloween.
the original suggestion was that we could just go to the other party.
but the thing was, i wasn't originally planning on going to that one, and i wasn't even sure if i wanted to.
i also tried figuring out whether i could still go trick-or-treating with another friend.
but THAT didn't exactly work out either.
at this point, halloween planning was starting to feel like a group project where somebody accidentally deleted the entire slideshow the night before it was due π
like all i wanted was candy, costumes, and a fun night with my friends.
IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK???
βq°⩠the new halloween plan π
BUTTTT after all that chaos, i FINALLY have a plan.
i'm going to the other halloween party!!!
was this the original plan??? absolutely not.
did it take approximately 500 plot twists to get here??? YES.
but honestly, i'm hoping it'll still be really fun!!
and who knows??? maybe this whole situation will end up being one of those things i look back on and laugh about.
because sometimes things don't go the way you imagined, but that doesn't automatically mean they're going to be bad.
βq°⩠final thoughts β‘
honestly, this whole experience has been a little disappointing, a little frustrating, and VERY dramatic.
i was really excited about the original sleepover, and i'm still kinda sad that it isn't happening.
but i'm also trying not to let that ruin halloween for me.
because at the end of the day, i still get to dress up, hang out, and hopefully make some fun memories.
and if there's one thing i've learned from this entire situation, it's that making plans with a group of teenagers should probably qualify as an extreme sport π
ANYWAYSSSS, that's the halloween lore so far!!!
hopefully october 31st is a little less chaotic than the planning process.
but knowing my life???
NO PROMISES. π
xoxo,
your local halloween disaster ππ
p.s. can somebody PLEASE explain why planning one night of fun requires more organization than a government operation???
