everyone is stupid now

I remember something that happened a while ago, but I am still annoyed by it                              We were in class, and had to search for information by ourselves for something. I immediately hear the words 'how do you research without AI??'

???

What? I thought I misheard, so I look up to check if anyone actually could have possibly asked such a question, and I find out I did not mishear, and she's actually dead serious.                                  There is only two possibilities for this: 1) she has never researched anything by herself in her life before, and this is her first time trying so without AI or 2) she has researched without AI before, but she has become so reliant on it since the past few years that she has completely lost the skill of looking for information

Both sound pretty bad, but I want to talk about the second scenario. She was 16/17, so she has lived a life before AI, because AI only started becoming mainstream in 2023 I think. So in 3 years, she's been using it so much that she becomes genuinely clueless when asked to do a simple task without it. Is that not dangerous?

Obviously this isn't the only time something like this has happened, but I can't even blame students anymore because teachers use AI too. Not only do they use it, they are encouraging students to use it. My secondary school English teacher basically made everyone use it for a lesson. What are you doing? Students use it out of laziness, but isn't this your job? Your job is literally to teach kids. YOU have to teach, not let a computer do it for you.

Another incident happened today as well, I was on a bus and some kids behind me started talking about how amazing AI is. There is nothing amazing about it. Do people even know how it works? It doesn't 'create' answers for you, it steals. It is literally impossible for Gen AI to create anything. It just takes things that already exist on the internet, things that were actually created by humans, and just puts it together, in a very generic and often wrong way. We've all seen AI overview use Reddit answers that were meant as a joke in response to serious questions, right?

How hard can it actually be to just, do something by yourself? The 'AI boom' only happened three years ago, but in that short amount of time it has invaded every single part of the internet. The WHITE HOUSE is posting AI slop on their OFFICIAL accounts. I know America's been a joke for a while, but this really topped it off. That Trump x Green Lantern video on tiktok has 600,000 likes. The comments are full of bots I think (that is an entire different problem), but there are obviously some people that actually liked that video. I know old people struggle to tell what's AI and what's not, but obviously no one believed that video was real, so that means some people really did find that video entertaining. The president of a country posting AI bullshit is entertaining for some people?? There is no hope for them

That might be a slightly extreme example, most people aren't that deranged yet. But it doesn't matter, no one should be using Gen AI. I'm tired of going like 'oh hahaha you use AI lolll just use your brain lolol'. No, I lose respect for you if you use AI, especially if you use it on a regular basis. I think you are worth less if you use AI and I am so tired of pretending you aren't. I am ESPECIALLY tired of schools encouraging it.

I don't even care if you use it just for harmless jokes. If you want a reaction image for something, I promise you don't need AI for it. No one knows how to do anything anymore. Everyone is lazy. Everyone is stupid. I hate everyone and I hope people that use AI get no where in life

I totally agree, it's almost dystopic to find ourselves in a world where education and information is dominated by ai models. Teachers are making studying material based on AI information, then they make tests using AI just for the students to use the same "easy problem solver" to study or even do their whole jobs, and that's a huge loss to the potential of the minds around us. it also creates some sort of feeling of disconfort at least for me with the autorities, beacouse they are actually recognizing and using it to manage important political desitions. its hard to belive that in this world full of amazing artists its easier to see ai slop in our phones or in advertising around us than actually conect with people (talking about the social media crisis). so in that way we are furder than we thought to people around us too, beacouse its easier to ask ai than your teacher.

(english is not my native language, but i prefer to make a personal effort to write this comment even tho it could have some mistakes, so sorry if im not very clear about what i want to say).

I agree!! If teachers use AI to teach, and students use AI to do the work, and then teachers use AI to check and mark the work, what is the point of even going to school?? And yeah I also think people getting worse at communicating. I hate how many people are talking to AI as if it's their friend or even their therapist
There are so many good artists, but it really is so hard to find them because of the mountains of AI slop everywhere. It's really is uncomfortable seeing people, especially presidents, using AI in politics. Because if leaders of a country are using it, of course everyone else is going to use it too

also I understood everything you were trying to say, and English isn't my native language either!!
