tl;dr pedophila is a PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDER, NOT A CHOICE, where an adult or older/post-pubescent adolescent is sexually attracted to PRE-PUBESCENT CHILDREN

- somebody you disagree with
- somebody you've had an argument with online
- somebody who is not attracted to pre-pubescent children
a child molester or predator is not always a pedophile
a pedophile is not always a predator or child molester

If I may put my own penny; paraphilias are not all inherently disorders, and it is considered a paraphilic disorder a paraphilia that one, causes the person extreme distress, two, causes them extreme impairment / dysfunction in daily life, and three, puts themself or others in danger.
There is also the popular myth that paraphilias are the cause of sexual abuse, such is that 'child predators are pedophiles'. Sexual violence is not about sexual interest. Many sex offenders have zero sexual interest in their victims. For example, the majority of men who sexually abuse other men actually identify as heterosexual. Sexual interest can play a part in abuse, but it is never the sole motivator. The desire for power and control, as well as having discriminatory beliefs (like transphobia, homophobia, sexism, racism, etc.), are the key motivators of sexual violence, and not sexual desire as studies show. Most child predators are not pedophiles, and I also think this is important to note. As always, even with other less 'strong' examples, every single paraphilia is something that cannot be controlled. Arousal is a physiological reaction, never a choice. People cannot control what arouses them. Someone’s thoughts and feelings will not tell you who they are as a person or the choices they will make. Just because some people have paraphilias involving abuse does not mean they will condone or romanticize real life abuse.

I've also seen a lot of people use up the concept of pedophilia and their ableism (paramisia) to target transgender women in specific, throwing around terms and whatnot. Although I've seen this more commonly in trans women, it will really not surprise you how much people will go to target minorities of these things (as if it's a bad thing at all in the beginning). Even more so when people start spewing around how, insert people with a paraphilia all deserve to die. I've seen posts that outright start with 'pedophiles kill yourselves'. It would be a lie to say this isn't ableism and I do hope people get more info on what words actually mean before they use them. Thank you for making this post.

yes, this !! pedophilia is not always technically a disorder, i majorly simplified what it really is and how it presents just to get my point across. but yes, pedophilia is different from pedophilic *disorder* in that a pedophile may be able to handle/manage their attraction without any distress or harm to themselves or others. someone with *pedophilic disorder* is really struggling to keep their thoughts and actions in check. neither deserve the crazy amounts of hate and misinfo and fear mongering going around

I have always gotten so annoyed over the "kill all pedophiles" rhetoric!! because more often than not, what they really mean is "kill all child molesters". It's super uncomfortable to try and defend a paraphilia like this though because rather than seeing pedophilia as the diagnosed disorder that it is, people see it as an accusation. Seeing immoral thought get conflated for immoral intention, is so frustrating.

whats your views on art like "loli" (ughhhh just writing it feels yucky). Imo at minimum that stuffs immoral even if its not "real"
if youre asking whether i think kodacons (the general term for lolis and shotas) are pedophiles, i dont have an answer for that. the definition of pedophilia doesnt specify whether attraction to fictional/drawn/animated children counts, or if it's only attraction to real children. the definition doesnt bring up fictional children at all. until a bunch of research is done and professionals come to one conclusion or another, i dont think its really fair to label kodacons as pedophiles. thats just my opinion

if youre asking about my opinion of kodacon in general, i'll just say what i tell pretty much everybody: i dont like it, but i'd much rather have people jerk it to fictional children than harm real, living, breathing kids. beyond that i dont care about the "morals" of it because... there are no real children involved, therefore no children are being harmed. too often the moral panic about kodacon takes people dangerously close to wanting actual thought policing 🤷

@Seffin: Here's a idea, find something more important to worry about and stop trying to police the thoughts of everyone because you're a ninny control freak. Actual abuse is what matters here, not fiction. A lot of people play mass shooting murder simulators, that doesn't make them potential mass shooters or killers.

@Seffin: Oh, and one other thing. You mentioned Loli... I'm no expert on this, but this usually refers to adults that look like teenagers, or even teens themselves that have child-like features. Anything dealing with teens is not pedophilia. You can call real abuse of teens statuary rape or corruption of minor, but it's not pedophilia.

i believe hebephilia is the term for sexual attraction to pubescent minors (usually 14-16 years old)
lolicon refers to attraction to (usually anime) drawn/animated little girls
lolita is a type fashion where you dress cute/elegant/childlike, has nothing to do with lolicon or attraction to children (even if its name was inspired by the book lolita)
i dont think it was necessary to be rude to someone just asking a question. if you want to educate people its better to do it from a place of openness and not lashing out

That's all true, but lolicon/lolita can be sexualized too. But why people care about that more than actual abuse that does harm is beyond me.
By lumping everything together as 'immoral' seems rude in itself. I just get tired of all the stupid nonsense people complain about, especially when they haven't really experienced anything as to what they're complaining about. It's like they're at war with sexuality and biology itself.
