Dami is the name of this little girl. The first time I met her was during her birthday party, and it wasn’t just her parents who came... her grandparents and her nanny were there too. It was VERY obvious that she was the little princess of the family. I didn’t really get the chance to know her that day because my boss wanted to talk to me, so the second time I met her was when I actually got to interact with her. And honestly… she was literally like a princess. She was polite, quiet, had bangs and little pigtails, and looked SO CUTE. During playtime, she held my hand, smiled at me, and played with me, and I instantly started liking her. Out of all the kids that day, I definitely had a soft spot for her. Then learning time started, and when we had to sit down, she came and sat RIGHT NEXT TO ME. She even refused to sit with her nanny and ended up sitting on my lap, and I swear I felt like I had WON THE LOTTERY. Like… being a three-year-old’s favorite teacher when she had only met me TWICE before?? I was SO excited for the class to end so I could tell my coworker, “I think Dami loves me.” BUT THEN… learning time started and I got the biggest reality check of my life. Dami was STUBBORN, easily frustrated, not polite at all, and had ZERO patience. She kept trying to grab things from the teachers, tearing papers, and even trying to hit us. I was literally thinking, WHERE DID THE SWEET LITTLE ANGEL GO??? My coworkers had actually warned me about her before I met her, but I thought they were exaggerating, or maybe they had just met her on a bad day. They told me that Dami was VERY spoiled because she was basically the princess of the whole family, and apparently her family had told the teachers that they didn’t like it when teachers “FORCED” her to learn. Their attitude was basically, “Just let her do whatever she wants.” Her grandpa even said that she was smart and would eventually do everything by herself as long as nobody forced her, so they didn’t want the teachers interfering too much. I kept thinking about that sentence while I was working with her because… okay, then WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO??? I can’t make her sit down, I can’t make her practice counting, I can’t physically stop her from doing whatever she wants… so what exactly is my job here??? My coworkers had basically started ignoring her because she would rather run off and play than study, and honestly, I tried doing the same. UNTIL her grandparents appeared outside the glass door, waving at her and watching her like she was the SWEETEST LITTLE ANGEL ON EARTH. Dami smiled at them for a moment, and then suddenly she ran toward the door crying because she wanted to go to them. And of course, I HAD TO STOP HER. Learning time wasn’t over, and she was also distracting the other kids, so nobody could focus anymore. I tried talking to her gently, but she started SCREAMING and CRYING. And I was STRESSED. I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do, especially because her grandparents were literally standing behind the glass door WATCHING ME. If I picked her up and carried her away against her will, would they get mad at me??? I kept thinking about what they had said about not forcing her to do anything. In the end, one of my coworkers came over and carried her away anyway, while Dami cried LOUDLY the entire time. After the class ended, my coworkers and I talked about what happened. One of them told us that she had spoken to Dami’s nanny, and apparently even the nanny agreed with us about her behavior. She said Dami might be like this because she’s so spoiled at home, and apparently she’s already allowed to watch YouTube at such a young age… ANYWAY, whatever the reason is, I learned my lesson that day. I’m probably NEVER dealing with her again. 😭
